Ghost is the solo debut of Ben Cooper, the 24-year old Florida resident who makes up one half of Electric President, Morr Music's very own superstars of electronically enhanced indie pop. For his solo work, Cooper focuses more centrally on the essence of his songwriting, stripping away the more explicitly electronic instrumentation. Despite all being recorded in Cooper's Jacksonville Shed, throughout the album there are such moments of expansive, even grandiose orchestration. Just take a listen to 'Wrapped In Piano Strings', which on the one hand takes its melodic cues from Paul Simon while reaching Animal Collective-like heights of eccentric pop bliss by the chorus. |
